You don't need a full court to become a better basketball player. Some of the most important skill work in the game can be done in a few square feet — and with the right ball, you can do it without waking up the entire building.
Here are 10 drills you can run indoors, right now.
1. Stationary Two-Ball Dribble
Space needed: 3x3 feet
Dribble both balls simultaneously, keeping them at waist height. Focus on keeping your eyes up. This builds hand independence and forces both hands to work equally. Start slow, speed up as you get comfortable.
2. Figure Eight (No Dribble)
Space needed: Standing room only
Pass the ball around and through your legs in a figure eight pattern — no dribbling. This builds feel and hand speed. Go forward, then reverse. Time yourself and try to beat your record.
3. Crossover Series
Space needed: 3x4 feet
Work through your crossover vocabulary in sequence: basic crossover, between the legs, behind the back, hesitation, double crossover. Do 10 reps of each, both directions.
4. Spider Dribble
Space needed: Standing room only
In a low stance, dribble the ball in front of your right hand, then behind with your right, then in front with your left, then behind with your left — continuously. Builds low, controlled dribbling and hand speed.
5. Wall Passing
Space needed: 6 feet from wall
Two-hand chest pass off the wall, catch, repeat. Then switch to one-hand passes. Builds passing mechanics, hand strength, and reaction time.
6. Jab Step Series
Space needed: 4x4 feet
From triple threat position, work your jab step vocabulary: jab and go, jab and pull back, jab and crossover. Do 10 reps each direction. This is footwork that makes you harder to guard.
7. Pivot Footwork
Space needed: Standing room only
Practice front pivots and reverse pivots from both feet. One of the most underrated skills in basketball. Slow and precise beats fast and sloppy here.
8. Form Shooting (Dry Fire)
Space needed: Standing room only
No hoop needed. Work through your full shooting motion — catch, set point, follow-through. Focus on elbow alignment, wrist snap, and release point. Do 50 reps. Your shot will thank you.
9. Dribble Reaction Drill
Space needed: 6 feet
Dribble in place. Call out "left," "right," "between," or "behind" randomly and execute instantly. Trains reactive dribbling — the kind you actually use in games.
10. Chair Dribbling Course
Space needed: 10–12 feet
Set up chairs in a line and dribble through them like cones. Change direction at each chair. Add crossovers or between-the-legs moves at each obstacle. As close to game-speed handle work as you can get indoors.
All of these drills work best with a ball that won't get you evicted. The Official Silent Basketball® is designed specifically for indoor training — real feel, real response, dramatically reduced noise.
